Ben Griffin dials up Hail Mary tweet in last-ditch effort to get into the Masters

If the Masters started tomorrow, World No. 51 Ben Griffin would be the first man out. That’s a tough place to be, but it’s not for lack of trying. Griffin has played 12 straight weeks, skipped just two tournaments all year and has risen 17 spots in the Official World Golf Rankings along the way. Unfortunately, the former Tar Heel’s four-month climb toward the top 50 came up just short despite a final-round 65 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.
But Griffin hasn’t given up. Not yet. He still has one last card to play, and he’s doing everything in his power to make sure it’s an ace. That includes the highly experimental “Viktor-Min Woo Method.” Check it out.
As Jason Sobel points out, Viktor Hovland’s surprising rebound at the Valspar Championship came after the struggling Norwegian considered dropping out of the tournament. The following week, Min Woo Lee broke through for his maiden PGA Tour win despite being unsure about playing in Houston. Sensing a trend, Griffin took to X on Monday to cast doubts about his status for this week’s Valero Texas Open.
A win at TPC San Antonio is now Griffin’s only potential route into the 2025 Masters, so make no mistake, we are definitely in “Hail Mary” territory here. But you miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take, stranger things have happened and third time is definitely a charm.
