Why We Like It
- Diamonized black-metal finish provides a badass, durable look while reducing glare.
- Five-step forging process from 1025 carbon steel creates a pillowy soft feel at impact.
- Also enhancing feel is a thermoplastic urethane insert behind the hitting area.
- Grooves are milled into the face, allowing them to come close to the USGA limit for maximum spin.
- Weight in the toe brings the center of gravity closer to face center.
- A shorter hosel length helps avoid the kind of excessive spin that causes shots to balloon.
- Top 5 in Sound/Feel, low-handicaps.
- SPECS: 7-iron: 32 degrees; PW: 44 degrees

The black head is an interesting change. And it's an overall smaller head but not intimidating. Acoustics were standard, but you got a softer feel on mis-hits. Also, I could turn it over or cut it with a mid ball flight.

I got a medium-trajectory shot pretty consistently. There was no difficulty getting good ball speed when I needed it. It has good pop off the face and the ball goes pretty straight. I definitely lost distance on off-center hits and you can feel them in your hands.

I'm a huge fan of the all-black shaft and clubhead. Golf is weird, you can learn to hit stuff that is not aesthetically pleasing, but when you like the way the whole club looks, it makes a difference in how you play. I love that you could keep it down much easier. You got a lot more forgiveness out of it—the best blend of distance of workability.

I like the all-black look. It has a smaller head, too, and the lightness that comes with that. I was able to move the club quickly through the ball, which added distance. Impact and turf interaction were soft and quick. I loved that. You didn't get hurt by trying to take a little off it, either. I always felt in control.

The black on black, it's different. It stands out, it makes me feel like a baller. In fact, I could do anything with it. I could move it all around and the fogiveness was off the charts. It makes an incredible first impression. It was simply the best.

Interestingly, the black face promotes confidence because it makes you look at the ball instead of the club. These move through the ground cleanly and when struck in the middle of the face, you get a soft feel and a medium-to-high trajectory. The ones I hit well all ended up within a couple yards of each other.

This was very forgiving and workable. Even on mis-hits, the ball goes straight and you never lose too much distance. It takes a little getting use to looks-wise, but it's kinda cool and different. I think I love these.

Nice club to look at, and the ball just jumps off the face with a towering landing angle. I got the same ball flight and shot shape even on mis-hits and nothing went off line. It was really easy to get through the turf and it makes you want to keep hitting it—sort of addictive.

Skylar

The black metal with a blacked-out shaft screams cool factor. It sounded a little hollow but was super consistent on the middle of the face. The consistency of the ball flight was desirable. It kept progressively going higher. And on a mis-hit, the dispersion wasn't terrible.

RC

A little heavier than what I would've wanted but consistent with the numbers and I liked the touch-higher ball flight. Other than that, the black was different. It was an adjustment to look at but still looked pretty cool.

The blacked-out look is really cool. It's like the Batmobile of clubs, a pleasure to look down on. For such a flashy club, it's very consistent. You won't see wildly bad results on wildly bad mis-hits.

Love this club! I don't know about the forgiveness because I didn't miss a single shot. That surprises me because the clubhead is so small. The all-black look—it's a black beauty. You carry these in your bag and people are going to ask you where you got them.

I love the all-black head and shaft. Real sexy. The sound and feel were a little rigid from club to club. The more you tried to crank it up, the more rigid it got. Still, you can work the ball. You just have to make sure you're locking in on the type of shot you want to hit.

I love the overall shape. It's smaller so it's a nice-looking players iron. The finish is almost a little too dark, though. Playing at dawn or dusk makes it hard to see the club. It looks and performs very player-friendly.

The black finish is very sharp. It has a professional look while being cutting edge in that it is so different. I was surprised that it wasn't very forgiving. Mis-hits didn't travel very far. The long irons went quite high, though. I was surprised that the 5-iron got up so quickly, which would help me hold greens.

Thomas

It didn't require a precise strike so my results were consistently good. The sweet spot seemed larger than average. I could hit this through a tiny window over and over again. Even the 5-iron was easy to hit.

I love the matte black. It has the perfect framing of the ball at address and the proportions are spot on from the blade length to its top and bottom. Performance was a little inconsistent, but I was able to control high-to-low trajectory very well.

The hollow-body construction and a thinner, more flexible cupface (in which the face wraps around part of the sole and topline) on the 3- through 5-iron provide more ball speed and a higher launch to enhance distance.
The remaining irons have a 1025 forged-carbon-steel face insert designed for precision, accuracy and repeatability in the clubs where distance isn’t as crucial.
The company’s urethane microspheres within the body of the long irons control vibration, enhance feel and allow the face to flex for maximum distance.

The single-piece forged cavity-back is more compact than the P·770.
Cavities in the sole are milled out, allowing for tungsten (up to 11 grams) and a slug of lightweight metal-matrix composite to be inserted to lower the center of gravity.
The metal-matrix composite is one-fifth the density of the surrounding steel. This allows for more perimeter weighting and ultimately forgiveness.
